Up before the dawn, getting ready to go. The house is quiet, my family sleeps. Rising in the darkness to hit the road early. Down a cup of hot coffee and dress in warm clothes. Out the door and up the street to meet the day.
Laboring over the pedals, generating speed. Off the road and onto a dirt path. Frost coated gravel crunching under my wheels. Crisp autumn air biting my cheeks and stinging in my throat.
I looked up and turned my head toward the east. Fire in the sky, glowing orange, and yellow, a burning ember. Camera in hand, I straddle the bike and make a picture, capture the moment. Nevada sunrises are among the best I’ve seen.
Little slices of adventure to live until a new beginning. There is so much to see. Many people dream but few go. In minutes, the sun climbs higher turning the flaming clouds dull gray. Time to turn these ashes into a new day, a new beginning.
Desert in the east, mountains to the west, it’s another deep fall morning on the edge of the Sierra foothills. There’s still so much to see along this jagged mountain chain before it’s time to go.
Bicycles take you to wonderful places if you are willing to get up and go. If a grand adventure isn’t in the picture today, do a small one instead. It doesn’t matter whether it’s near or far, but that you go.
The clock is ticking. There isn’t much time to waste. Go long or go short, but go. Either way, it’s adventure I’m wanting to meet.
