Hello, welcome to johnnyisaak.com. I’m Johnny, a semi-nomad and avid traveler with a passion for exploration, adventure, and photography.
I’m a burgeoning long-distance cycle trekker and an emerging independent author who likes to share exciting and interesting stories fueled by an endless curiosity and a desire to learn about the world in which we live.
I have an affinity for diverse peoples and cultures and am always striving to seek out the authentic and often vanishing cultures and ancient traditions living on the fringes of modern society, which are fast fading away. As a photographer, I’ve been making images for over 40 years and there are still intriguing places and fascinating people I have yet to see through the lens of my Nikon camera.
I live to explore far away lands and to seek out ethnic and societal phenomena from the saddle of his trusty bicycle, which I’m convinced is the only way to travel. I relish getting out on the road, armed only with an open heart, an open mind, an empty journal, and a blank memory card in my camera, to seek out the raw, gritty, unvarnished nooks and crannies of life.
When at home, I’m a diehard bicycle commuter, come rain or shine, winter or summer, hot or cold. And as a connoisseur of the bean, I’m an ardent lover of all things coffee, with Italian roasted hand-crafted espresso being the crown jewel, with a piping hot cup of Turkish coffee brewed over a cookstove on the side of the road being a close second. I love life, love my family, and love what I do. When I’m not traveling, I’m getting ready to travel or testing new gear. I carry with me a lifelong passion for fun and adventure.
While not traveling, I am home-based on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains with my family.
Happy climbing and may the wind be at your back. See you at the top of the hill. Memento mori.
Johnny I.
